We had been married over 19 years. Three kids, one Grand kid, a nice house, good jobs. We were doing well and because of that, I think, God was not a very big part of our life. Just too comfortable. Chris was devastated when I walked out of our home just months before our 20th anniversary in May of 2007. This couldn’t happen to us, we were not THOSE people… we would NEVER divorce. “He’ll be back by tomorrow,” She thought, “he just needs to cool off.” Days turned into months and months into years as we remained separated and eventually divorced in April of 2012.

While I was off doing my own thing, vowing never to return, Chris was holding on. She had some amazing friends who stood by her side, but she also had MANY who tried to counsel her into divorce. She was told “God wouldn’t want her to be treated this way”, “God had a Godly husband waiting for her”, “Mark had his own free will and God would not make him come back”, “Mark had already broken our covenant so we were technically already divorced”….the list went on. But what she didn’t have was someone to tell her that God hated divorce and we (me, Chris and God) were in a covenant together and the only one who left was Mark. God WANTED to restore our marriage and she chose to believe for a miracle.

She finally stumbled across a ministry one night, in her distress, that gave her hope. She turned to the Word and realized God was on her side and she had many wonderful promises to claim and believe in for the restoring of our marriage. She learned through various ministries what spiritual warfare was and how the enemy had attacked our marriage and deceived me, her husband, into thinking there was a better life waiting outside the walls of our home.

God says in His Word, “And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none.” Eze 22:30

While Chris’s life was overflowing with the peace of God, mine was anything but that. The Word says there is no rest for the wicked and as I will tell you, my life was full of unrest. That sin, that was fun for a season, turned into chaos, confusion, guilt and a heap of bad choices. You see while man does have free will, God has a way of letting us see the pigpen we are living in and putting a longing in our heart for peace and rest that we know we can only find in God. He also has a beautiful way of restoring the love and passion that once fueled our marriage.

There is a lot more to our story, that would fill many pages, but the bottom line is God drew us closer to him thru all this. On November 14, 2014, our 28 year anniversary, we were remarried. Glory be to God! We now have 9 grand kids and are enjoying watching them, and our adult kids, grow and mature, helping lead them to know the Lord.

This has lead us to start a ministry called “Restored by the Word”. We know that we have been called to help others say NO to divorce, even if the other person is adamant that it is over and has moved on or even divorced you. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO LET THE DEVIL DESTROY YOUR MARRIAGE, HOME AND FAMILY! But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive. Gen 50:20
We would love to encourage and teach you how to lay down your life so that your spouse can be saved from the grips of hell.
